Vacuum pump — removal and installation
Note: The vacuum pump is located on the lower driver’s side front of the engine and is driven by a stretchy belt connected to the crankshaft pulley. Only non-6.0L models are equipped with a vacuum pump.
1. On some models a vacuum assist pump has been added. This pump provides additional vacuum to the brake system vacuum booster to create the needed vacuum under various driving conditions.
Removal
2. Disconnect the negative battery terminal (see Engine electrical systems). Remove the air intake duct (see Fuel and exhaust systems).
3. Disconnect the vacuum lines from the pump.
4. Remove the drivebelt from the pump (see Tune-up and routine maintenance).
5. Remove the bolts securing the vacuum pump to the engine.
6. Remove the pump and the gasket.
7. Installation is the reverse of removal. Install all four bolts loosely. Tighten the bolts to the torque listed in this Chapter’s Specifications.
