Crankshaft Position (CKP) sensor — replacement
Note: If the Malfunction Indicator Light (MIL) comes on after replacing the CKP sensor and starting the engine, drive the vehicle to a dealer and have the service department perform a crankshaft position variation learn procedure with a factory scan tool. If a scan tool is available, follow the instructions on the scan tool to perform the relearn procedure.
Note: The CKP sensor is located on the right side of the engine block, near the flywheel. Access is blocked by the starter.
1. Remove the starter motor (see Engine electrical systems).
2. Disconnect the electrical connector from the crankshaft position sensor (see illustration).
5.2 The CKP sensor is located at the right rear of the engine block, above the starter motor
3. Remove the CKP sensor mounting bolt and remove the CKP sensor.
4. Installation is the reverse of removal. Be sure to tighten the CKP sensor mounting bolt to the torque listed in this Chapter’s Specifications.
