Battery and battery tray — removal and installation

Note: Battery straps and handlers are available at most auto parts stores for reasonable prices. They make it easier to remove and carry the battery.

1. Remove the engine compartment brace from over the battery (see illustration).

2. Disconnect the cable from the negative terminal of the battery (see illustration).

3. Disconnect the cable from the positive terminal of the battery (see illustration).

4. Flip the mega-fuse box and back out of the way and remove the hold-down clamp (see illustration).

5. Lift out the battery. Be careful — it’s heavy.

6. To remove the battery tray, remove the coolant expansion tank screws and position it to allow removal of the battery tray.

7. Remove the battery tray fasteners and remove the battery tray (see illustration).

8. If you are replacing the battery, make sure you get one that’s identical, with the same dimensions, amperage rating, cold cranking rating, etc.

9. Installation is the reverse of removal. Connect the cable to the positive battery terminal first, then connect the ground cable to the negative battery terminal.
