Ignition coil — removal and installation

1. Disconnect the cable from the negative battery terminal (see Battery and battery tray — removal and installation).

2. Remove the air intake duct (see Air intake duct and air filter housing — removal and installation).

3. On 6.0L models, remove the engine cover. On all other models, remove the engine cover from the side of the engine from which you wish to remove the ignition coil (see illustration).

Note: For the driver’s side cover, remove the oil filler cap to remove the cover. On V8 models, you may have to disconnect the PCV hoses to remove the engine covers.

4. Reposition any harnesses or EVAP tubing to allow access to the desired ignition coil.

5. Disconnect the electrical connector from the ignition coil to be removed (see illustration).

6. Disconnect the spark plug wire boot from the spark plug (see Tune-up and routine maintenance).

7. Remove the two-ignition coil mounting bolts and remove the coil.

8. Before installing the plug wire on the ignition coil, coat the interior of the boot with silicone dielectric compound. Installation is otherwise the reverse of removal.
