Fuel pressure sensor and fuel pump flow control module — replacement
Fuel pressure sensor
Note: The fuel pressure sensor is located under the vehicle, on the fuel supply line.
1. Relieve the system fuel pressure (see Fuel pressure relief procedure).
2. Raise the vehicle and support it securely on jack stands.
3. Disconnect the electrical connector from the fuel pressure sensor (see illustration).
11.3 To disconnect the electrical connector from the fuel pressure sensor, depress the release tab (A). To remove the sensor (B) from the fuel supply line, hold the flats on the fuel line (C) with a wrench (to prevent twisting the line), then unscrew the sensor
4. Unscrew the fuel pressure sensor from the fuel supply line.
Warning: Be prepared for fuel spillage.
5. Remove and discard the old fuel pressure sensor 0-ring. Coat a new 0-ring with a little clean engine oil, then install it on the fuel pressure sensor.
6. Installation is otherwise the reverse of removal. Be sure to tighten the fuel pressure sensor securely.
7. Before lowering the vehicle, test for leaks as follows:
a) Turn the ignition switch key to the ON position (don’t start the engine) for two seconds.
b) Turn the ignition switch key to the OFF position for ten seconds.
c) Turn the ignition switch key to the ON position (don’t start the engine).
d) Inspect the area around the fuel pressure sensor for leaks.
Fuel Pump Flow Control Module (FPFCM)
Note: The FPFCM is also referred to as the Fuel Pump Power Control Module.
8. The fuel pump flow control module is located under the vehicle, above the spare tire (see illustration). Remove the spare tire from the vehicle.
11.8 FPFCM location, above the spare tire
9. Raise the rear of the vehicle and support it securely on jack stands.
10. Remove the spare tire.
11. Disconnect the electrical connector from the FPFCM.
12. Remove the FPFCM mounting bolts (see illustration) and remove the module from its mounting bracket.
13. Installation is the reverse of removal.
