Wheel studs — replacement

Note: This procedure applies to both the front and rear wheel studs.

1. Loosen the wheel lug nuts, raise the vehicle and support it securely on jack stands. Remove the wheel.

2. Remove the brake disc (see Brakes).

3. Push the stud out of the hub flange with a press tool (see illustration).

4. Insert the new stud into the hub flange from the back side and install some flat washers and a lug nut on the stud.

It’s best to use an old lug nut when installing a new stud. The bottom of the nut can be damaged where it mates up with the wheel rim.

5. Tighten the lug nut until the stud is seated in the flange.

6. Reinstall the disc and caliper (see Brakes). Install the wheel and lug nuts. Lower the vehicle and tighten the lug nuts to the torque listed in the Tune-up and routine maintenance Specifications.
