Knock sensor — replacement

Note: There are two knock sensors, one on each side of the block. Knock sensor 9 is on the left side of the block; knock sensor 2 is on the right side, above the starter. Because they’re located below the exhaust manifolds, you cannot access the knock sensors from above.

1. Raise the front of the vehicle and place it securely on jack stands.

2. On non-6.0L, 4WD models, it may be necessary to remove the front driveshaft to access the knock sensor 1 for removal (see Driveshaft(s) — removal and installation).

3. On 6.0L models, to replace knock seen- soar 2, remove the starter (see Starter motor — removal and installation).

4. On non-6.0L models, remove the knock sensor heat shield retaining bolt and remove the heat shield.

5. Disconnect the electrical connector from the knock sensor (see illustrations).
